That's a tight setup Marty. Efficient and a good use of multi-effects. Such a fan of your playing and singing, great to get a little behind the scenes action on your rig. BTW, fun thread, thanks for starting it! :D

Thanks ;)

I've been playing my rig for 3 or 4 years without any change, but I recently bought a couple of new pedals and had to change my pedalboard for a slightly bigger one. Pics and explanation soon! 8-)

Like Per, I also use Fractal Audio AxeFXII. Such a great box. But lately, I've moved to using a Fractal Audio AX8 for live use and now leave the AxeFXII in my home studio. The AX8 is a self contained, portable unit that easily processes both sides of the Stick as two separate signal paths. Unlike the AxeFXII, the AX8 only runs one amp model at a time, but I tend to process my bass side with only some EQ, compression and a little reverb. The melody side gets compression, amp, cab/mic, delay, chorus, reverb, etc. etc.

Not a lot of detail on FA's site about the individual effects. I've been looking at the Eventide H9 but have concerns I'd want a midi controller to be able to use it like a pedal board, which would then cost more than this AX8. Can you eleborate on the EQ patch? Are the reverbs on par with Eventide and Strymon? Is there a link to a better description of the effects? I also play guitar, the Ax8 might be pricey, but It would save me from getting another guitar amp and stay with my PA. I want as little gear as possible.

My rainbow-ish board, now complete. 8-)

I had a smaller PB for the last three years I think, quite unchanged. I had to purchase a couple of Jamman's for a new project I have, so I had to upgrade to a bigger board.

Basically, there are two parallel effect chains, similar in number of devices and "flavour" :

- for the melody strings : filter -> overdrive -> chorus -> delay --> Jamman 1

- for the bass strings : phaser -> overdrive -> harmonizer -> delay --> Jamman 2

I'm not a big fan of reverbs, and I can get some decent ones with some tweaking of the delays, so I decided to put them on a shelf.

First in the chain are the preamp and the router. I added some control boxes and expression pedals as well.

That is a sweet setup! How do you like that new Boss Delay pedal? Lots of cool control options on that. Also cool to see those Disaster Area pedals - those are on my short list of things to add to my board.

What's that T1M pedal controlling up at the top left? Curious...

You don't care for reverb? Perhaps it's overused, but I am still a fan.

Also see an SP2 - are you using a Stickup?

Board looks tight, good job!

Thanks Gene!

The Boss DD500 is pretty new to me. There are a lot of paramaters to tweak, but it's still easy to program once you figure out what those parameters are for. Overall sound is very nice, quite different from the Strymon (I've always been fond of Boss delays). The cool feature is to be able to run two delay in parallel at the same time, so you can go crazy. Built-in looper is meh.

The DMC3 is quite old, I'm using it to control the Timeline, but I would like to upgrade to a newer one with the new software to be able to control both DD500 and Timeline. Those boxes are top-notch.

The T1M is used to control the Timeline. It's basically an expression pedal, or rather an expression knob ;)
A bit difficult to use it at first, but now I'm used to rock it with the foot, and it saves a lot of space on those crowded boards. The next purchase I think could be a Mission Engineering Expressionator to connect all those devices needing a expression pedal to just a single expression pedal. How handy!

There are a lot of effects on that board, but I hardly use them. The DD500 is always on, for a delay or to fake some reverb, and the SD2 as well, to add some grit to the melody strings. The other boxes are there to add some different flavours from time to time, but quite rarely I have to admit.

And the SP2... What a nice piece of preamp : small, 9V, a huge amount of gain without any hiss. I definitely love it, and it shines with my Stickup.

The TC Voicelive can be used for BOTH sides.
I run the bass into the vocal side (through a preamp pedal or DI) and Melodyonto the GTR side.

The big advantage is that you get FX for each side that stay in sync with Tap tempo.
You also get looping for each side that stays in Sync and you still have separate outputs.
It's effects are of the standard variety. But good.

Lots of foot switch expansion options too...

In addition, I have two eventide H9's and an assortment of overdrives/Fuzz/distortion pedals

These VoiceLive and Play Electric boxes are pretty incredible in that they are essentially multi-effect units with two separate signal paths. That is a great all in one pedal. Looping is a plus, but there is only 15 seconds from what I have read - thanks for sharing that.

The VL3 has quite a bit of Loop time.
You can store loops as well.
My usage of looping is just for writing and for short 2-4 bar riffs live where I play another instrument.

I'm going to make a thread about the setup ....
You do have to turn off a bunch of vocal oriented settings to get it all happy
