Four Hour Farmer’s [emoji68][emoji264] Market
I have played a series of Farmer’s Markets this summer but the gig yesterday was four hours - the longest gig I have played since a Christmas Party back in grad school. Filling up four hours with a set list that covers about two hours was a challenge. Here was my strategy:
I improvised intros and outros for most of the songs. I also brought a twelve string short-scale guitar (Emerald Amicus) and a Harpejji and I improvised two extended pieces per hour with these instruments.
I also had an impromptu jam on “One Love” with a guitarist visiting from Jamaica which was a lot of fun.
This was also my first gig with my new Railboard in raised matched reciprocal tuning! Oddly, I did not use the looper or freeze pedal much. I also did not use my Beat Buddy or Wavedrum for this gig. At some point, the rig complexity gets in the way.
As usual, there were lots of good questions from folks and a few CD sales. Overall, it was a lot of fun!
What strategies do others use for long gigs?
