Post Stickrad solo at The Homestead
Hi Peeps.

I just wanted say I played my first gig in 2 months and I hadn't touched the Stick in 5 weeks.

One thing occurred to me.

Dynamics can save a gig from being a train wreck. You know that feeling when your left hand has become a dumb 4th member and doesn't do what you want it to. Well, I just let things breathe a bit with the use of dynamics and the thing went a whole lot better.

Cheers

Kevin. Thank you your dudeness.!

It was a bit rusty but the main thing like I said, is that I was able to let things slow down and create more dynamics. I wasn't racing to the finish line to get the songs done.

Yeah, that is so true. That level of preparedness does not become so much of an issue when you slow down and take in the moment.

It reminds me of a scene from Mystery Men. There is a character that can become invisible, but no one can be looking at him. I play just fine here in my garage - relaxed, focused and ready to create. As soon as you put other people in the room, it becomes (air quotes) a performance. When I let that go, I am able to slow down and create meaningful music, not just "play" the Stick.

So glad to hear it went well. I expect you got to introduce some people to the instrument who would never have known that you had not recently practiced. Still a win and great to hear man - looking forward to more gig reports, cheers me ol'. :D

Thanks GP!

I still had to fight the performance notion. It's crazy but because I'm such a big deal on drums.... I still try to approach the Stick with the same intensity. Well, I'm not that good overall on the Stick yet, so I have to consciously avoid trying to be intense, so as to not make mistakes.

It's good medicine.
