Did a gig today....
......"If I've told them once, I've told them a thousand times,....it's Spinal Tap, THEN puppet show"......
Played today at the Acoustic Cafe at the below mentioned music store in Brantford, Ontario. Things went very well. Played for an hour. Answered a lot of questions, gave out some phancy schmancy biz cards I have previously made.
Went pretty good, about 25 folks rolled in at the crack of 2 pm, mostly middle aged.....like me. They were pretty stoked by the Stick.....as usual, no one had heard or seen one before.
I'll tell you...I was bloody nervous, and that affects my playing. There were no clams though, and I played well in the eyes of a listener, but in my mind I was 73%. Nerves seem to take hold of my right hand, not the left....isn't that weird?..... oh well, it went good...no train wrecks, and peoples lives were richer because of the Stick.....mission accomplished!
cheers, Rueben Kincaid

Re: Did a gig today....
Funny thing is Rodrigo.....I've played hundreds of gigs as a band member....but when you are alone,... the stakes seem higher. It's something I need to overcome....
cheers, k

Re: Did a gig today....
Congratulations, Kevin! That's so awesome! And I suspect you have the right way of looking at this: you just blew several people's minds just playing Mary Had a Little Lamb doing bass and guitar at the same time. I know your actual talents are far above just that and I'm sure you made a bunch of impressions. Great job!

I did an open mic recently, played 4 songs and man, it was nerve wracking! Those 4 songs are very, very clean now. Haha trial by fire... My band has me slowly evolving from 'only roots' bass player to 'freak in the back with that weird guitar...' Lol

Re: Did a gig today....
Awesome! I remember watching you play at FHA in 2014 and really enjoyed your playing. Any video? At least I had 30second clips...
The nerves thing is always a challenge. It's how you deal with it and learn to push on. I have a couple songs that I know are really easy and great warm ups and if I mess up no one will know... All shaken out and just keep going...
At the gig I did last week I felt I was about 73% too! How strange... But no one knew it... Ha!
Great job!

Re: Did a gig today....
I relate, Kev. It seems the best sound happens when no one is listening. I am sure the effect goes away eventually.

Re: Did a gig today....
Great Stuff Kev , you've set me a new bench mark to get and hour of material, about three quarters of the way there. I have the same sort of experience, Ok in the listeners perspective, about 73% also by my own judgement! Did another last week which i didnt write about , trying to do one a week at present. I always start with one people find interesting to watch and hear but is really easy for me to play and push on from there. Cheers PirateB
