Post subject:  RECAP: FHF #43 Tunings
Last Friday, we covered many a multitude of tunings for the Chapman Stick, including Matched Reciprocal, Classic (previously known as Standard), Matched Reciprocal, Baritone Melody and Emmett's latest, Raised Match Reciprocal. We also covered the Full Baritone tuning, the high bass 4th tuning and an introduction to the Dual Bass Reciprocal.

Lots of great questions and some new faces in the forum - thanks to Damon, Kevin-c, Luc and Randy for engaging discussion and especially to Rob and Greg for admin-ing and leading the tuning discussion respectively.

If you still have questions about tunings for the Chapman Stick, post them here! We'll work it out.

This was an excellent watch. Wish I could have been a part of it!! Also eager to hear more about the new StepAbout, been waiting what seems like forever!

That was a great watch.! It also highlighted the fact that there are more tunings to be uncovered, but Greg seemed to cover the essential differences really well.

I dunno, I still got a hankering for 7+5 which didn't get a mention... I I know I know, been there done that. :lol:

It did give me an idea for a new Stick and I consequently emailed Emmett with my, not so crazy idea. Anyway enough of me.... ;)

At least I actually get the Matched Reciprocal thing now. What did Bach say, make an instrument in 4ths...

As far as Bach goes, Cides had no trouble delivering him in the Classic tuning, a whole CD's worth!

The place where bass 4ths shines is in replication piano chords verbatim.. and even there. it's not a panacea...

So many tunings, so little time...

and a question :

is there a difference regarding strings when moving from classic tuning to high bass 4th in Grand Stick ?

or just tuning 12th string higher one step is enough ?

High Boaz,

As long as you don't already have heavy gauge on there you should be fine, though that string will have more tension than the others What gauge are you using?

I don't own 12 strings (yet)
But this came up to mind- once I use high bass 4th and decide to go standard-or vice versa:
Should I order new set of strings or jus retune the 12th and I'm ready to go

Order it with the Classic tuning, and then tune the high bass string down a whole step when you want the high bass 4th, rather than tuning a high bass 4th up to a 5th....
