Post FHF#92: Invention 1 pt. 1
Hi Stick friends and happy Friday to you. My second installment with OBS, only this week, I am recording and not streaming.

A couple of notes from my week in the Stickosphere:

1. Have you seen Pablo Spalletti? Argentinian Stickist, you should check him out
2. Dale Ladouceur on the Every Friday Podcast: http://everyfridaypodcast.com/podcast/117-rubiks-cube-of-the-instrument-world/
3. Tap Theory's out! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_z3qjWR8iTA, new one today actually. The usual radness.
4. Rodrigo is the featured Stickist on stick.com, but everyone here probably already knew that. Great questions from Greg, check it - http://stick.com/artists/artistfeatures/1802serrao/

In this session, I cover the first 8 measures of Bach's Invention no. 1 in C Major. Still need to get back on the horse with Mad World!

Happy Free Hands Friday, have a great weekend.

Thoroughly enjoying this one. I got about as far as you so far on this tune so it’s time to step it up. Thanks for posting the FHF episodes. Real LOVE the multi angle shots Great views of your hands and no stuttering video this time. Awesome. Sounds is great but would love to hear the stick a touch louder but that’s me. .

Thanks Gene

I thoroughly enjoyed this also, this is one of my favourite pieces although I think about the harmonic changes quite a bit differently. Also, I sightread the thing to death but haven't really gotten around to memorizing it just yet. Maybe I will focus on the Invention today and tomorrow. Maybe I'll post a vid of my first two measures if that's cool, as a sort of reply and possibly stir up the hornet's nest... Y'know, footage from a bottom of the barrel dweeb from nowheresville giving y'all something to make fun of! :D

Well here it is, me trying to participate in an FHF thing, with the Bach Invention No 1. Good fun, this piece is (in my opinion) a Pandora's box of cool ideas to draw from. I thought it would be fun to share my memorization process, and a little bit of refinement on the first two measures, same as Gene.

(And yes, I know that there is a ton of work to done, this is a video of practicing and learning...have mercy...)

Seriously? Nobody is responding to Gene's Bach FHF? (Mind blown)

I mean, we can devote all kinds of energy to some silly forum argument, and we can make the time for someone who only ever made one forum thread post, and is now banished forever? We can support that, but when someone shares something that took a lot of work and energy to create, not to mention that it's essentially a free lesson that WILL help your playing out it gets ignored? Wow...

I am going to "ragebump" this thread. There. "Ragebumped". Now I'm gonna go get a haircut. :D

Hey Scott, I've been enjoying a few minutes of your video response to FHF 92 - thanks so much for sharing your learning in real time. I'm queuing up the rest for later this evening.

It has been my experience to live my life as a verb on the Stickist. Not to proclaim that I am a stickist, that I can play Bach or look at the number of views, etc. I am here to learn, to share and to participate as part of this forum.

These past few weeks have been devoted to making better quality videos as Emmett routinely commented on the poor quality of the video and sound. So, slowly but surely, the quality of the content is increasing.

I am delighted to share this learning experience with you and look forward to your commentary and opinions on the process - I appreciate all that you do for our little corner of the world. I'm glad you're here! :D

Post Re: FHF#92: Invention 1 pt. 1
No worries, nobody's mad. :D I just like riling folks up a bit... This is a good thread, and I want to keep it alive and kicking. Bach is a big deal to me, especially the Inventions and my Stick journey....

Gene, no it's not about views, or being the best or any of that other stuff. Believe me, for me it's about having fun playing the instrument, and I have THE most fun when I am learning to play something new. Sharing and collaborating, grinding out musical agreements/disagreements via forum discussions etc, etc... awesome. This thread and threads like it are an actual opportunity to do something with members of our own musical species. Not a lot of Stick players where I live, and I suspect that's true for a lot of us...

Gene, your version was the first Bach Invention I heard on the Stick. Struck me as a really important piece of music, and I recognized immediately the benefits of studying it. Thanks, man.I can't wait to hear Rob G's version, and I'd love to see/hear anyone's thoughts on the topic. Even incendiary ones I suppose... as long as we're making music and getting along, right?

So yeah, I get it, we are all busy. Everyone has stuff going on. Not everyone checks the forums all the time. All good. But to me, when I see someone going the extra mile on something, contributing a work of real quality, it surprises me when it doesn't get recognized. Especially when a real clunker of a thread gets all kinds of participation...:D

And oh yes, your video fidelity is much improved - plus we get to see and hear some great playing.... Maybe learn something....Maybe help others learn too... Awesome. Great job, and thanks Gene!

Your stuff is important Gene, in whatever form it takes. It is very, very inspirational from my point of view to see someone's take on a piece of music, and educational also to try and see it from their point of view, how they understand it, etc. I think it deserves at the very least a bit of acknowledgement, and as such I have zero problem with speaking my mind on the topic.

Lol I am a 'verb' here too... I think when people see "jayesskerr" on their thread (or mine) they immediately go "&$%!" Hahaha I am pretty sure that 90% of the population here wants me dead... funny! :D You all are stuck with me, I am not going anywhere. Better get used to it.
And yeah, I am going to post a video reply to your NEXT Bach FHF until we have made it through the whole Invention together.

Heck, maybe some folks just don't like Bach.

Alright, back to practice. (By the way, my new haircut is pretty excellent.)
