Hi Tap friends, a quick update on our last session. Dan, Andy and Boaz joined for some lively discussion on the upcoming Free Hands Academy 2016 event in mid August. We talked through some of the details on when, who will be there as well as some of the new programs that we'll be implementing. We also talked about JRJ's "Going up Dragon Mountain", which I thoroughly enjoyed. Dan was also kind enough to share some of the footage from FHA 2014, which found us playing in a massive 30 Stickist circle, chanting, clapping, dancing and tapping like crazy.

That tappened!!!!

So, to recap - Greg Howard, Steve Adelson, Bob Culbertson and Emmett Chapman will be there. There will tons of private instruction as well options for smaller instruction groups. We will also have some opportunities to showcase some of the leaders in our community that are performing professionally and releasing albums, this will include Brett Bottomley and David Tipton to start. Both will be featured performers as every night will be Stick Night at FHA 2016 as we are in discussions with the Guitar Merchant to host nightly performances.

There will be opportunities to save money on Stick accessories - 10% of all accessories with no shipping. I do love a good savings. And, all meals and accommodations are provided for you while you are here. I will also make this claim - this year is the year of the IPA. There will be many varieties of all your favorite Stone Brewery beers - the well is deep my brothers and sisters! Come drink your fill at the Chapman Stick event of a lifetime, it's going to be another grand year.

Cheers!

Thank you Gene for your timely response. I was able to navigate the FHA website and register for the event with Paypal.

I'd happily cross the Pacific for this one Gene & then my wife organises her big 50th Birthday party at exactly the same time! I'm pretty lucky though, she was the one who said I'd be mad not to go to StickCamp in Spain but missing this party might be going a bit far :o
There's always the next one, I'd love to come to California for many reasons. B

Perhaps we'll do a FHF and check in with you Bruce! Glad to see you are out and about with the twins again. Would love to see a gig report with all the latest.

Loved your bit on DI boxes BTW, you are mighty!

I'm really looking forward to this as well. I have a whole new approach to jazz comping on tapping instruments that I will share with anyone interested at the seminar, without needing to do skype lessons. There is nothing like a "stickation" to rejuvenate the inner musician.

Hey Gene, thanks so much for the flattering review of my CD. I really appreciate the
Weather Report comparison, nowhere near that good but I love those guys and saw
them play a bunch of times...

I was surprised that you liked the first track so much ("Pineapple Jones"). I cringe about that one, so rhythmically challenged am I  but the song has a strange energy or feel to it that when you are in the right mood it really takes you somewhere. I like to think of the music
as 'drawing music' , good for that dual concentration aspect of the mind, it's a massage
for the right hemisphere ;).

Anyway thanks again for listening and taking the time on FHF.

I am working on new stuff and a better web presence but below are some links to a
a Stick improv, Sound Cloud and CD baby. I am slightly proud to say that I did
sell out of my CD from doing live performances but CD Baby seems to say they still have
some hard copies left if anyone wants one :geek: .

I need to get to work on the new CD I have been tinkering with (at the mastering stage),
but I might be able to do some remixing on "Going Up Dragon Mountain" for a re issue,
and see if I can get The Stick to stand out a little more.

I forgot to mention TAGG Interface; I have not had time to to get it all set up
but the quality of the build is very good and it fits the stick perfectly, not to tight, but
firm and snug. It will be very interesting to explore a new way of approaching The Stick 8-).

Great to hear JRJ. I like the term drawing music - I was never quite sure if I was in a verse or a chorus, it didn't really matter. It did feel like there was a plan for the tune, a vision of sorts, that was in view. There was also a lot of horns. I think some of them were synthesizers, but the flute sounded altogether real.

Perhaps it's time we had you on a FHF! Would you be up for that?!

I really enjoyed this JRJ! I love improvisational music and you have done it well here. I have recently complimented Brett Bottomley on his improv music as being well suited to "drawing" along with. Do you mean your music is good to actually have in the background when drawing with a pencil or pen, or do you mean it "draws" you in while concentrating on listening to it. Before any answer is forthcoming, I think your music is well suited for both situations.

I improvise a lot- I mean a lot, at home when I play. I think it sounds lovely to my ears, but am not sure how others will like it. How do you decide when something you improvise is made for the ears of others, if you don't mind me asking?

Thanks for directing our attention to this creation of yours.

Mike
