Post FREE HANDS FRIDAY #74 - The TAGG Interface
Hi Stick friends, it is with GREAT excitation that I am able to exclaim...

It's here!

At last, The TAGG Interface for the Chapman Stick is ready for release. And what better way than to roll it out than devoting a Free Hands Friday session to it. This Friday, April 22 at 12pm PST, will be Free Hands Friday #74 and we're going to talk all about the history of this long sought after Chapman Stick peripheral as well as some of the details surrounding the most recent design changes. That's right, TAGG 1.2 is here!

The first production run of 5 Western Maple TAGGs is complete and are available for purchase for $120 + shipping directly through the Free Hands Academy. All TAGGS are handmade by luthier and master craftsman John Taggart in Las Vegas, NV. At this time, only checks are being accepted. If you would like to purchase one, please send a PM to me and we will prepare your order. All domestic orders are USPS with 2 days handling.

Happy standing Chapman Stick day!

Gene,

I'm intrigued by the TAGG Interface, and I get basically that it hooks onto your Stick and then attaches to...what do you attach it to? Is there another kind of stand that you use to put the TAGG and the Stick on to play upright?

The TAGG Interface is attached to an accessory cymbal stand. I have used a convertible Pearl straight stand with good success. The stand can be used as a straight stand or with the boom extended.

Check out Kevin Chiasson's video

I expect that there will be some more videos coming out soon - this Friday will be used to detail some of the specifics on how to set it up and order one - cheers!

Thanks, Gene! I appreciate the explanation and the video.

I hear you, Sage, and plan to watch it, but help a brother out! Not all of us have even heard of this before, much less know that we want to dedicate an entire Friday afternoon to just finding out what the heck it is. But now maybe I do, now that I know what it is.

Actually, I think I've seen enough from Gene's explanation and the video--and I can put in an order now. But now I have to get an accessory cymbal stand...

It's an interesting paradigm. One school of thought is that it is nice to have an instrument that feels so much a part of you when you wear it, that moves with you and responds to subtle motion. At another school, it is nice to have an instrument that stays put so you can run after children gone wild, leave it set up to play instantly, and have zero weight impact.

Ordered! Sent ya a PM, Gene.

I like this reasoning:

I can set up one of the Sticks in the studio to be always ready to go, and swap out Sticks, and it seems easily portable, for taking to the monthly Stick night here in Ann Arbor and anywhere else I'd take my Sticks. Still will rock my DBro holder(s), but I like this a lot!

(Have to get another cymbal stand, though. I'm using all mine at the moment! For cymbals and crazy things like that. ;) )
