Post RECAP: Free Hands Friday #71 - Third Voice with Emmett
Hi Stick Friends, here is a quick update on what was discussed last Friday on our Free Hands Friday session, Free Hands Friday #71 The Third Voice. To start, "we" were Boaz, Andy, Victor, Samson, Richard, Randy, Russell, our host Dbro, me and Emmett. It was a friendly crowd and we had plenty to cover in our 2 hour session.

To start, the whole crew at Stick Enterprises were very gracious in having us over to meander through the halls and ooh and ahh at all the fantastic work they are doing. Huge cabinets full of hundreds of Stick CD artists, stacks of planks or "soon to be Sticks", a glimpse at some of the new Gold toned Railboards (affectionately called C3PO by Mavis) and of course, time with Emmett talking about the Third Voice.

Lots of great content on the Patch of Shades, Boss' new guitar synthesizer, the sy-300, a little bit on Andy Prokopyk's TrussT truss holder - details to follow! It comes in at 2 hours, so it might cut into your Netflix time, hopefully you can find some content in here that is interesting, valuable and / or amusing. :D

We got a quick introduction to Yumi, Gary and Mavis in their natural habitat! What a friendly, knowledgeable crew. Cambria was upstairs talking shop with Yuta when I came down to the office looking for her. At some point, we'll have to have her as a guest on FHF!

I managed to sneak in some Stone IPAs and a few of the Sierra Nevada IPAs for an after hours "Salud"! Yuta joined us briefly as well. It was a good day. Tip of hat to Dbro for leading the discussion and of course to Boaz, Andy, Samson, Randy, Victor, Richard and FHF hero Russell for joining!

What a cool session guys. Thanks for posting Gene.
Love Samsons comments....." can you make a ten string with two extra strings?"......eheheh. My thoughts exactly.

Andys idea is super frickin cool! Bro.....great job. Can you post some close up pics of the device and how it attaches? I'm highly interested. Is there some some of "friction" device or moveable detent that keeps the wrench from falling out, or does it just stay in there by design?

cheers,
kev

Oh man, this was a special day indeed - I was glad you were there Boaz.

Kev - we'll do a separate session on Andy and the TrussT for sure.

Post TrussT wrench holder
Regarding the TrussT discussion near the end, here's another option. Works well for single and double wrenches.

Thanks Kev! I'll post some about it tomorrow (02/27). Stay tuned!

Interestingly enough, the material costs for to make a Truss-T is less than it would be for me to buy Velcro. It's quite surprising how quickly these can be fabricated.

I mean my time and effort is worth something, but I had fun along the way!

My initial thought when I came up with the thing was to design it to fit on the headstock like your Velcro, but I chose not to for a few reasons:

#1 is that not all Sticks have the same tuners, so I couldn't use the tuner screws for mounting without many different iterations.

the #2 reason, and it's somewhat trivial, is that I would probably forget to put the wrench on the headstock because it's an extra motion in a comparatively awkward direction. It's much more natural for my hand to grab from the hook (and I'm sure I'll explain the reason for this in the future as well).

I've got to admit, I didn't consider using Velcro. Maybe I don't "Truss-T" it. heh.

I considered doing this as well but I figured there's enough weight on my car's ignition with all the other bullshit on there. I figured it was best to keep wrench and Stick as close as possible. As Thom Yorke would say: "Everything in its right place." But I'd say there's more than two colours[sic] in my head.
