Hey Free Hands Friends! Is it Friday yet? So close, so very close. Here is a fun fact - Don Schiff has agreed to be our guest on Friday and even better yet, he's bringing his friend Emmett Chapman - hurrah! We're also hoping that Dave Brosky can join us as we were hoping to check in with him a few Friday's back for freeking sake, but Gene flaked! You might say we have our freeking Free Hands full!



This Friday will be a special session with Don and Emmett talking about (swirly music intro) THE THIRD VOICE....! What is it? Have you heard it? What does it even sound like? Well, Emmett and Don will tell you. It's that special extra something that you can cast or call upon and is easily done so with an instrument like the NS Stick or Chapman Stick. I've also requested that we get a little insight into the Patch of Shades as well as Emmett's foray into guitar synthesis with the Boss SY-300. Will all that fit into an hour, I somehow doubt. Should be fun though.

The session will have to start a little late - 2:30 PM PST, Friday, February 19 was the proposed time and I am hopeful that some of you can join us. We'll save a few minutes for the end of the session for some questions, we hope you can make it. Please PM me with your email address if you would like to attend the Google hangout on air.

Emmett is truly the master of this. I have many fond memories of listening to him at the NAMM show as he drew crowds and filled up the joint with his orchestral tones.

If you have the Stick Night '99 video, check out his performance.. very inspiring.

I like to use the StepBAout to create this effect in my own performances. Both sides go "dry" through the bass effects path, then the melody path has a 3rd voice applied to it, that I can apply to either bass or melody as desired.

Alright, Randy, Boaz and Samson (and Dbro 'course). Sounds good.

This session will be special as Don and Emmett are good friends and both very knowledgeable about getting good sounds and tones using effects. Dave and I have been chatting about the format - we'll probably stay out of the way for most of this and take some questions at the end.
