Post Free Hands Friday #68 - Reverb
A great learning session today with Sticksts from all over the world. Kevin and Rob from up in Canada, Tomas in Chile, Boaz in Israel and Dave and Gene in The U.S.

Good fun today! While there's been lots of talk about the Strymon Big Sky these days on the stickist, there are a multitude to choose from and all with great features to explore new sounds with: Midi, expression input, Freeze and infinite features too.

Our conversations focused more on the actual setup of the pedal(s) for our instrument that has 2 outputs with varying ranges (bass and melody).
Talking points included:
Melody side only?
one unit or two?
using a mixer with an aux channel
using a single unit with 2 inputs and outputs
using an effects processor (in our case, the HD500x)

It was interesting to see how we all had different approaches to to getting the right reverb sound. After our conversation, we were inspired to dig a little deeper into our effects pedals / boards to better understand how this works.

Lots of great insight on how to use and when to use it - does the tune call for it? Lots of good insight from Tomas, Dave, Kevin, Boaz and Rob. Thanks so much for a great session. We're going to do a follow up session on pedalboards for the Stick next week, so please watch for that coming up!

Happy Free Hands Friday everyone! :D

Agreed man, thanks for holding the line on people who just can't wait to talk to you before the song ends. We were being all. Ice about, but you were pretty spot on with your assessment of gig etiquette. Cheers!

When I visited Jason Brock in NorthBay a few months ago,
he had the Big Sky reverb. It sounded pretty good.
Jason plays a lot of Ambient (atmospheric) style music.

What a coincidence, Friday was also the day our sea shipment arrived here in Edinburgh after it's long 7 week journey over the sea - somewhere in one of these boxes is my Big Sky! It really became an integral part of my sound (using it after the HD500, and with a Strymon Lex in the effects loop) once I got it and I found myself customizing a reverb preset for each tune, also using the freeze as a sort of sustain pedal in spots. Never got around to formally recording much with it though, but I think I may have some rough recordings of a couple rehearsals when I was getting ready for my Adrian Belew opening set in November 2014 - I'll see if I can dig up anything interesting.

Will be sure to check our the FHF video when I get a chance...

i laughed alot..."is that a Strymon? while eating his pate..." "All people are idiots."..."Emmetts Pedalboard". it floats around the room and all the knobs are hardwired to his brain...oh, and GOVERNMENT CHEESE. great. by the way, im still using the PODX3 and it hasn't blown up yet. i've had it for 7yrs. and JUST hooked up an aux. expression pedal, it took i don't know how long before i stopped using AMP SIMULATIONS and started using the desk inputs (although i still like the AC30 and i tune DBR) and i don't use my reverb alot but freeze would be cool. (actually, i CAN get that w/ my JamMan Express's) thanks guys for FREEHANDSFRIDAYS!
