Post Major 7th Shapes in Mirrored 4ths
Hello, everyone.

I didn't want to hijack another thread so I'm starting a new one. I think the maturing of the Chapman Stick as a serious instrument is well on its way. One piece of evidence is that there are many ways to play a Stick in many different styles. And there are different tunings. I never want to come off as being too pushy about this, but once in a while I would like to share with the community why I love the Mirrored 4ths tuning. Here's a small entry.

I love jazz harmony and the 4ths tuning offers a different approach to left-hand chords. The chords have different voicings that sound wonderful to me. Here's the Major 7th shape I use most often.

On the higher strings in the left hand this shape is as fundamental as they get. It uses the same fingerings as the right hand shape, only mirrored.

This final shape is a very wide voicing that sounds great as a closing chord.

These shapes sound great on my SG12 and I hope it's OK with everyone to share things like this. I played the standard 4ths/5ths tuning for a long time and I'm loving Mirrored 4ths even more.

Thanks,

-Eric

I cannot see why someone would dislike your sharing that, Eric. In fact, I enjoyed seeing a different perspective.

Thanks, I just don't want to annoy anyone by constantly pushing this tuning in their faces. I hope others find it interesting, too.

I've used the traditional tuning for years but then I switched to mirrored 4ths learning tunes became easier for me.

Another 4ths guy! I wonder how many there are? We have one who is well known, Rob Martino.

Thank you. I love all the chord shapes I'm finding.

Great topic Eric, I'd love to contribute more along these lines at some point! Busy with work and being a new dad and all... but i think there are lots of cool things to show about this tuning.

Thanks, Rob. Congrats on your new baby! That changes pretty much everything.

I'm using a variation of Mirrored 4ths on my SG12 that I call "What Rob Martino might use on an SG12." I would love to nicely document the tuning more. I'm looking for a good spot for maybe a shared resource for 4ths enthusiasts.
