I like when Steve A gives us small tricks to make us understand more about this beautiful instrument...the Chapman stick.

On my side I'm a huge fan of harmony and I'd like to share something with you. I think you don't need to care about the tuning of your instrument but just play it in a logical way.

Let's say you play a small bluesy progression...Left hand...Em7 for 2 bars and then C7 one bar and B7 one bar.

On the Em7 you can double your chord position with your right hand or play a melody or improvisation on it. Or...play a D major triad on top. Notes are D, F# and A...a normal triad. That means in Em7 you have a dominant 7th, a 9th and an 11th in your right hand to complete this basic Em7

If you keep this D triad on C7 these three notes of this D triad become a 9th, #11th and a 13th...and on B7 these three notes become a #9th, a 5th and a dom 7th.

It's so gorgeous on the C7...so big rich sound...

An important factor is chord placement. Inversions and high and low pitch can have a great affect on the harmonic consonance vs dissonance. This is a good start to the polychordal exploration possibilities of The Stick. Also rhythmic presentation offers more sound possibilities
Adding another chordal instrument like guitar or piano ups the possibilities further. We utilized this concept extensively on "Sonic Imagination".

You're right Steve. I'd say that all chords (in this example) harmonically in relation with 1 sharp at the key (triads only) in the right hand would complete these chords in the left hand. Like you said, it's a polychordal exploration. And I love the analyse the role of each note in the right hand in relation with the basics chords in the left hand.
