Pardon this naive and dumb question.
I have a cheap lapsteel guitar that has a plastic fretboard w/plastic fret markings, I said it cheap
.
I want to make this into a proto type 6 string tapping guitar, simply to see if it can be done.
I will lower the nut & adjust the spring bridge down and since the fret board has slightly raised fret markers, will a plastic fret allow for tapping? Does the fret bar have to be metal to create the tapping or just tapping the string at the plastic fret board bar allow for the pick up to work?
If it even works somewhat I can buy a fretboard at the 22.5 scale with metal frets and try that.
My apologies to those here that have and use fine tapping instruments, I simply don't have the resources other than a $50 lap steel to try with.
