Nice tune, Dave. Thanks to conservative classic rock FM radio, I've never heard anything off the D&D album beyond a couple of songs.
Of course The Beatles made use of M6 chords in their early days, too.
This was just a curious pondering on my part.

I don´t know.

But in classical music a 6th chord is not the same as a 6th chord in modern music. In classical music a 6th chord is a chord in first inversion. A chord with it´s third note in the bass and the root a sixth above it.

I studied classical music for a year when I was a wee boy. That little detail fucked things up for me when I talked to rock players later on.....

Are you talking a 6th chord or the 6th of a scale?
(Like I'll find the answer, anyway...)

I'll try two guesses:

1. When it's a diminished 7th?
2. When it's a 13th?

6th is renamed 13th when it's added to a dominant 7
In Led Zep's What Is And Whst Shall Never Be the beginning has an A13
(A7 with an F#) . Later they play A6 (A Major with F#)
AC#EGF# vs. AC#EF#

That's how I too learned an A6. When improvising I sometimes chose to "see it" as a F#m.

Do you ever say "A add 6"? Like we do with add 9 chords; I'm thinking about the situation where you for example play an A Major with a F# but still keep the E in the same octave as that F# sixth.

No need to use the word add. It's 1 3 5 6.
We say "add9" to mean leave out the 7. It's 1 3 5 9

Thanks, Steve. Do you American/Brit speakers say "add9" also when when it is 1 2 3 5 ?
