Post Higher Tuning SB8
Hi there,
I'm a happy owner of a 10 string railboard, but I'm thinking about going 8-string someday.

I was just wondering, since the SB8 is a 36" instrument, would it still be possible to tune it in a rather high tuning like (from bass to treble, with the first d# beeing the d# one semitone below the low E on a bass):

D# G# C# F# B E A D

so just a downward extension of the classic tuning's melody side .

This would give the range of a standard 4-string bass and a standard guitar.

This is no problem. A high D is the same pitch as the highest note on the Classic tuning.

If you have any other questions about custom tunings, please email me directly at sticksupport@aol.com

Happy Tapping,
Greg

I was thinking about the same! Starting with the highest string tuned to a D and the lowest to D#, al divided uniformly in 4ths.

Did you retune your SB8 already? If so, how did it turn out?

A quick related point: If SE made a 9 string single region instrument (it could be done by using the 10 string as a basis and slightly widening the string spacing), all fourths downwards from highest possible tuning D4 would end up on Bb0, the lowest official SE string:

A# D# G# C# F# B E A D

Yes, I think there was a post of a guy that tuned his 10-string like that, although strings 5 & 6 were tuned to the same pitch. But basically, exactly what you said.

That is interesting - having strings tuned the same.

On my 1985 Ironwood - which is in Classic tuning - string # 1 is tuned the same as string # 3

Don't ask me why but it works, and it was a happy accident on my part :)

But it sounds like Greg has once again provided the solution, Bravo Greg !!

I guess it was to use all ten strings on the stick AND have them al tuned in fourths. Also, since the 10-string has a grouping space, it would make an easier interface between to groups by having one string overlapping.
