Anyone familiar with the Ramon Ricker Jazz series - Pentatonic Scales for Jazz Improvisation? I got this book off of Amazon dirt cheap, had rave reviews but I found it to be a bit confusing? He does NOT mention Major or Minor pentatonics but rather Modes of the pentatonic scale. Brett There's a ton of resources for the Scales themselves and the different "positions" ala "CAGED system" yada yada... But what I was looking for was patterns that could help establish the tonality in my hands and ears in a melodic approach vs just playing scales. This Ramon Ricker book does have those, but I just have to determine if its major or minor and yes like you say depending on the starting notes. I've never heard anyone else describe them as different "modes" of the penatonics. So I'll take what I can from it and not subscribe to yet another system of terminology. If that makes any sense.

One thing I remember about it is the way you can use it to play out and then resolve inside the tonality. I didn't look at it too much though. Joe Farell (soprano sax) was a great example to listen to when we talk about pentatonics.
