Post Bob plays The AcouStick at The Baked Potato
The recent discussion about Bob, jostled my thoughts and caused me to focus on this great concert.

We decided to set up a shoot at The Baked Potato, the fabled club in Studio City, when Bob Culbertson came to visit. The full concert featured Bob, Emmett and Don Schiff. It was a very intimate and relaxed evening of sounds by the most seasoned Stickists.

Bob brought his one-of-a-kind instrument, that he calls The Acoustic (actually it's number one in a two-of-a-kind production run). The concert had been scheduled and I asked him to bring it so I could shoot it for his book. You can see the picture on page 33 of "The Chapman Stick Presented By Bob Culbertson"

So he decided to play it there. A pretty rare occurrence, since Bob usually travels only with The Stick. I felt very fortunate to see it played live in concert.

Please see two songs in the video below played by Bob. First one is his original song, On The Green Briar River and the classic folk standard, Scarborough Fair.

So without further ado...

EDIT: It was great to hear the AcouStick so well, though I did have to add about 3dB of boost. I wonder if an AcouStick could be built from carbon fiber and/or fiberglass, like Composite Acoustics and RainSong guitars.

Thanks for the link. A few years back at Interlochen another student had an old Guild that was much louder than a Rainsong. At first I thought he had it plugged into a small amp. The volume and tone was amazing. For me afterwards buying a good acoustic guitar I'd have to say was the most difficult instrument I ever purchased. I looked at carbon fiber models, nice sustain on them, but tone and volume to me were just not there. In my opinion the variation in tone and playability with acoustic guitars is much greater than an electric. To create a full range acoudtic instrument has got to be an enormous challenge for Emmett. I'm just as impressed to see such an instrument created as I am seeing Bob play it.

Bob goes to Europe fairly often. You should make a serious effort to see him the next time he gets there. He's a great teacher and person. You would learn a ton.

That is a growing number of us. I haven't had Flash installed on my computer for years. It would be great if stickist would investigate HTML 5 plugins for YouTube and Vimeo. They certainly exist.
