Post Em unveils The Railboard
On March 24, 2012, Emmett Chapman made an announcement that would change the course of his 40-year quest.

At that time I didn't know a young man named Gene Perry, who had attended the event at Mira Costa College in Oceanside, California.

Here's a brief clip from my doc-in-progress.

Since that time, Gene has done more for the growing community of Stick players than anyone I can think of.

… except for Emmett, of course.

Visible here. Maybe watching that video requires Flash, which iPads and iPhones won't support.

If iPad's still do not have Flash, then it is your iPad. I do not have Flash on my desktop for security reasons, but I have become accustomed to digging out links from embeds.

I hate to criticize you Dan, but layering Gene's playing like that made it more difficult to understand Emmett. It also made it very difficult to understand the sequence of events.

I welcome criticism, Rob. It's work-in-progress. My purpose here is to give you a taste. It was a pleasant surprise for me to find footage of Gene at this momentous seminar, that I'd shot before getting to know him.

My plan for this segment is to expand it to include a much broader view of the moment when Emmett reveals his new Railboard. The reason the sound is low on Emmett is that we weren't miked ideally. If I had been given advance warning that he was going to unveil the new instrument, I would have approached it differently.

As it is with filmmaking, you use what you have. Overcoming your deficiencies is what gives your film strength.

Wow, thanks Dan. I apologize for destroying "When you wish upon a Star". I needed this event so bad. Tom G. and Bob took us to school that year!

Look! There's Randy, Leo G, Tom G, Bob, Robin (yay Robin, Stick heroine!) and my hero JRJ!

:D

I love that song and the casually imperfect way you're playing it, Gene. Especially in this setting.

...sharing an unfinished sequence.

Wow Dan.! What a great little window into that event.
