Post "EMMETT" docu-in-progress screening in Bel Air, CA
If you haven't heard the news yet...

I'm honored to have been asked to show my 42 minute rough cut at at STICK NIGHT Bel Air. I can't remember when there's ever been an event like this here in Los Angeles. It's happening on Saturday evening in less than two weeks. August 24th.

This will be the first major public showing of my documentary in progress, "EMMETT." Thanks for those of you who have been following the progress of this film. I appreciate your support and patience with its long gestation period. It's still a work in progress. There's going to be a Q&A after the screening and I'm looking forward to meeting anyone here from Stickist.com who can make it.

Thanks for your responses.

I started this documentary on faith. It was 2004 and I was looking for meaning as an artist. After spending a 20+ year career in the competitive fields of publishing and entertainment advertising, it wasn't until both my parents died in 1991, that I started to slowly realize that art was not just about competition.

Emmett, my older brother (by 15 years) was always a role model for me throughout my life. When I was three, he was already gone from my everyday family life. At the time of my youth he was a combination brother/uncle/nearly a father figure. Someone I admired from afar.

Knowing him and observing him has always given meaning to my life. As a teenager growing up in the '60s, I spent many nights and days contemplating my future, wondering what my THING would be. "Do your own thing." That was the ethic of the '60s. Conformity was anathema. Emmett was inspired by the '60s generation, the decade of idealism. He found his own thing like no other person I know. His thing became The Stick.

...and women. This year, Gene tells me that there are more female sign-ups than in past events. :)

That's right! We expect 3 full-time and one day pass Stick chicks! That's over 20% of the class.

The injection molded, half-inch thick glass filled black plastic ceiling has been broken!

:D
