Both...

However,
As I have gotten a little older, I prefer to sit with my 10 string as it is a little heavy (polycarb). I own a Slider Strap which makes it easier to play standing but it doesn't sit at the correct height for me any more. Over the years my approach has changed and the seated position feels more natural with the positioning of the Stick against my body. I just can't get that out of standing. As for my NS, standing is preferred although my latest recordings have all been in the seated positions.

Sit for practice, stand for a gig, until there's something that is more difficult with parts changing, then I'm sitting again.

Both.

I have noticed that I prefer to sit when I play sheet music and to stand when I play "freely".

Both, practise both , play both. A lot more room to use the fretboard when you're standing. A little more free hands standing. Sitting i think limits me, but when learning or reading i like to sit, because i have to think. Once you have your patterns down, then stand, and expand. Whatever works for you.

I sit, but it's not that I want to all the time. It's just back issues, although I'm always reviewing my options in ways to stand. I really like a "Taggert" - type stand (I came up with my own) because it affords a stability that I can't seem to get while sitting. Again, that goes back to what is comfortable and what provides stability (sigh). Still searching...
An edit here. I think I need to build a DBro Holder...

Sit!

I used a Lap Dawg since they were first introduced and they are beautifully engineered and machined tools. I am now using an Expanding Hands wooden rest only for the reason it works better for my needs and I like the aesthetic. I may be putting the Lap Dawg up for sale here if there is interest in a used unit at a discount.

I lay on my back when I play.
