Hello from Nashville
I don't have a stick....yet.
On Bass, I often run dual amps (Guitar and Bass) and do some guitar with a low bass range string or play a Dano 6 with a Looper or fingerpick chords on bass etc. Started thinking I could really use a Stick.
Here doing some research and hoping to get some insight. I'm in LA for a few days now and will hopefully be able to try out a few Sticks while I'm in town
Thanks for this website! John

Re: Hello from Nashville
It's a cool website, a fun forum.
The Stick is not a plucking instrument. It is not designed for slapping or picking. It does what it does, and it is superb for light-touch tapping. Erase your expectations when approaching the instrument. Go to it totally relaxed and it is fantastic. Take lessons from someone who is an expert in the Free Hands method.

Re: Hello from Nashville
Welcome, John. It is a mistake to think of the Stick as a guitar and bass put together, particularly with regard to gear, but it is not a bad way to think about the overall range of the instrument. You should probably keep a look out for Episode 50 of Free Hands Friday, which will be published via YouTube on April 3, and check out Episodes 42, 43, 40, and 44 when you are able (in that order). I hope your time in LA proves fruitful.

Re: Hello from Nashville
Hey John!
I'm in Nashville too!
I'm an old Stick player from way back. I just bought myself a new N/S that was delivered the other day.
It's nice to see a fellow (future) Stick player in the Music City!

Re: Hello from Nashville
Just got home.
I actually got to spend some time with Emmet Chapman and later with Don Schiff. NICE guys and picked up a ton of information.
I didn't immediately like the concept of the NS at first, but after spending some time with it I think it might be my 'gateway drug' into Stick playing.
I'm taking what I learned in LA and thinking about how I could put them to use. Looking forward to learning here.
Zak, Shooting you a message!
Thanks John

Robstafarian,
Thanks for the Free Hands Friday links. Watching the Videos is confirming some things I was noticing when I got to try out the instruments in LA and is helping me to understand the differences better.

Re: Hello from Nashville
Don's the best. He was my Stick instructor for a few months before I moved from LA to Vegas, and watching Emmett play is life changing. I'll never forget the day I picked up my Stick from SEI and I got to watch him play it before he handed it over to me. Message received and replied!
