Post Hello
Hello,

I've been "lurking" here for a while, figured I should probably come out of hiding. Mostly wanted to thank everyone - the various info and advice posted here is really helpful.

My background has mostly been classical piano. I got my Stick in January (10-string) and am already quite addicted to it. I'm signed up for the NE Stick seminar and looking forward to meeting some of you there.

Hi Claire, lots of good people here. Great to see how willing people are to share their thoughts on playing the Stick, Free Hands technique, etc.

Be sure to post some pics of your instrument and any questions you have about amps, technique and styles. I am certain there are many here that would appreciate the insight / thoughts given your experience and how your two hand technique translates to the Stick.

Also, let us know how the NE Stick Seminar goes. This last Southern California outing with Tom and Bob was very insightful and a great opportunity to meet new Stick players.

Best - Gene

welcome Claire.

Classical piano background. This is a good thing. I hope you see fit to record in the future.

Post Re: Hello
Welcome-

I've been playing for just less than a year now - It's the most compulsive, addictive and satisfying instrument I've played - and I've been through guitar (all kinds..) piano, violin, voice, and bass..

Enjoy your journey!

Post Re: Hello
Thanks for the welcome,

I'm not sure coming from a piano background makes that much difference, Stick is such a different beast. I've been taking lessons with Greg pretty much since I got my Stick. His method of hand movement makes sense to me - hand/arm movement was a key focus in my piano studies. The actual movement is completely different from playing piano, so at about 3 months in I'm only now feeling like my hands are maybe just starting to get it. Still a ways to go…

But I'm definitely enjoying this journey so far.
