New to the list, jonesing for a Stick
Hi List,
(Sorry, got wordy for an intro, just thought I'd say hi!)
I just joined the list. I'm currently having severe GAS (gear acquisition syndrome) for a Stick, and I'm really close to pulling the trigger on a new Railboard. I've been "aware" of the Stick for decades, but have never, in the past, considered it. I play bass in a church praise band, we do contemporary music. One day, we had no guitarist and things sounded horribly empty. I thought to myself "too bad I couldn't somehow cover the guitar parts, too" and the Stick re-emerged in my memory. Through other circumstances, a met another bass player that has played Stick and his words were "It's the best thing since bass guitar". Hmmm. I've played piano, clarinet, guitar and bass, with the only current instrument at any advanced skill level is the bass. I'm worried that this old coot will be able to use his 2 hands independently.
Wish me luck!
Ken

Re: New to the list, jonesing for a Stick
I have an SG12 as well which is made of Maple. It’s light weight and small. The railboard is definitely heavier but not very heavy really. I love both and use them both for different reasons. Play Classical and Guitar type stuff on the SG12 and full arrangements on Railboard.....where I want more bass. I only wish I got the 12 string Railboard but I can do the same things on a ten string just have to move my hands to a different spot. Maybe I’ll get a 12 string next Are you looking at 10 or 12 strings?

Sweet, Washington can always benefit from another Stickist! I'm in the Vancouver area, and as it happens I also play in the worship band at my church. Main role is on the bass side, but lately as my confidence has grown I've occasionally played some melody side content if we're short an electric guitar. Welcome! If you're ever in the area, give me a shout.

Randy: Looked at your awesome chord grid, what a totally cool tool! Thanks for sharing!
Gusset: I don't get out much, but I certainly will give you a shout if I'm in the area!

This is my SG12. I’ve added a fourth fret marker using coloured tape that matches. Got the tape at a hobby store.
