Gone but back
Howdy all! I was on this forum back in 2015. My house burned down that fall (and pretty much my whole town, such are California wildfires). My railboard melted to nothingness. This and more left me feeling a bit blue. I had to simplify life, and leaving this forum was part of that. I'm getting reinvigorated in a general sense, and more specifically, it's time to get back to stick playing. Ergo, first order of biz: get a stick. Well actually that's second, I've been enjoying listening to stick music of all kinds for the past month or so Dave

Sheesh!
Dave, congratulations on making it through. I'm sure you're stronger for it.
Welcome back Kotter.

Re: Gone but back
Welcome back to our small but interesting universe. Did you have a username that we might remember? Sorry to hear about the tragedy. Living in California myself I am curious what town it was that you lived in but I understand if you want to keep that private...
Let me know what kind of Stick you were interested in. I have a few older 10 string instruments that I would be happy to pass on at a fair price to someone who really wants to play.
Regards.

Re: Gone but back
All my instruments go through JRJ lol... Sorry to hear about loss and fire - a real issue here in the Foothills in Southern California. I lost a full on midi 10 string grid to fire. Here is to re-kindling the musical fire (without burning the place down)!

Re: Gone but back
@JRJ My username's same as before; I didn't ever post much. My former place was in Mountain Ranch, and it was the Butte fire that torched it. As for instruments, I had a railboard, and am open to a 10- or 12-string (still trying to decide). @earthgene Hopefully not tooooo foolishly, I still live in a fire prone region, Sierra Foothills gold country. This time, there's a fire hydrant at my driveway and I'm not quite as remote. Dave

Re: Gone but back
The rail board melted? It is so robust, I’m surprised the beam would melt. Is any part of it worth salvaging? If the beam didn’t melt, perhaps you can send it back to SE to have it rebuilt vs buying a new one

Re: Gone but back
@Markussz I never found an iota of the railboard, but did find small streams of melted aluminum patio furniture, etc. There were no discernible parts of the RB that I could find, and I looked for a long time through the debris, hoping to find anything worth saving, RB or otherwise. The fire's destruction was total: My two story house became about 2 feet of yuk splayed atop the basement's foundation.
I could hardly believe the RB was gone, but looked it up: Aluminum melts at 1218F, and wildfires get well over that. On the other hand, an aluminum ladder survived, so I guess it depends on how alloy-y the material is. Regardless, I didn't find any remnant of the railboard, despite hours of poking around.
@ earthgene I re-read your message, and losing that kind of stick ... wow, terrible!!!

Re: Gone but back
Well I'm glad you're OK at least. We kind of think our Bushfire season is bad in Australia, but when I saw the TV news of California, terrible. As for Melting , I don't doubt it , Our worst here some years back brought shocking photos of cars caught in it, brake discs melted among other bits. Horrendous.

Dave That's pretty cool and I dare say even metal that the Railboard completely melted away. It's also completely horrible for you and for the Railboard of course! I like to think of my Railboard as a Battleship that can't be scratched, but even battleships can be melted down, apparently. Hope you get back to the Sticking and to the forum soon!
