Post subject:  BillyLee's Introduction

Hello, Stick Folks,
I just joined the List and thought I'd introduce myself. I'm Billy Lee Farmer from Michigan, a long time fan of the Stick. I had the great pleasure of meeting Bob Culbertson when he was performing at Fisherman's Wharf in San Fransisco last fall. Bob created a spell-binding and inspiring perfromance! I am also a long-time friend of Steve Osburn, Michigan's premier Stick advocate and Stick-master, though I am long overdue to catch up with Steve. I'm hoping to be able to catch both Steve and Bob this summer at the Interlochen Stick Workshops here in Michigan. I do not own a Stick, but I hope to acquire one in the near future. So, presently, I am learning about the Stick in general, the various design choices, in the interest of acquiring the best Stick for my purposes and performance needs. At this point, I am leaning towards a 12 string "Grand Stick" or the theoretical 12 string "Grand Railboard" which does not presently exist, but at some point may hopefully come in to production. We will see....so I am giving myself time to learn about the Stick. Oh, I should say that about 30 years ago, I built my own version of a 12 Stick....maple body, ebony fingerboard, truss rod, 2 separate pickups, shorter scale (about 26 inch scale)...it was fun to play, but I learned that a Stick really needs the right combination of a longer scale and low tension strings...so it was a good introduction to instrument building, but my stick was not a really useful instrument. So thank you all for sharing your ideas, opinions, stories and inspiration here on StickList! I'm looking forward to jamming with you all someday soon! Stick with it! See ya!

BillyLee! Welcome to the Forum! Another Michigan Stickist, eh? (Or would-be Stickist). You should come by Oz Music when Steve hosts Michigan Stick Night ("MiStick"), which we haven't had in a while. I'll be at Interlochen as well as a few other local Stickists, like MichNS (Steve B.) and a few other Stickists. Good to see you and best of luck finding your Stick!

Thank you Josh and Steve! Yes, learning about and shopping for a new Stick is like being a kid again....it's a whole new world! Hope to see and meet you all, out there in Stick World!

There's a Stick for sale in the Port Huron area. Dark Bamboo, PASIV pickups ,12 string Grand. Billy, did you go to any of Oz's events at Riverside Arts Theater over the last year? Another one coming up in June.

Use paragraphs, some of us are old...

You're already referring to yourself in 3rd person AND you're from MI - we're glad you're here.

Also should add Bob has been a regular at the Ann Arbor Art Fair for the past several years thanks to one of Oz's friends (hear it's not easy to get into). This year it's a week after Interlochen, curious if he will stay in Michigan a couple of weeks this year. He's got the Art Fair on his event list, so you can see him in A2 if you miss Interlochen.
