Post New Member From Portland, OR
Just got this ironwood Stick in the mail today. It came with a broken string and no accessories. Anyone in or around PDX have a set to sell while I wait for new ones in the mail? I'm looking for a strap too.
I'm really excited to learn this thing. I lost use of my right arm last August and have been tapping on my SG. This instrument is really interesting.
Thanks,
Rudi

Hi Rudi, welcome!

I'm in Clark county...what tuning and string gauge? I have some old strings i keep as spares, so they might be a bit dull, but if they'll fit they could be a stopgap. Mine are medium matched reciprocal tuning.

Welcome! You can get a replacement strap from SE - trying to think of Portland players, I'm sure they will chime in.

Thanks guys. I'm probably going to mess around with Matched Reciprocal for now. This is very new to me.
I had never heard of a Chapman stick before last month. I was talking to my twin brother, who was with me during my motorcycle accident, about how playing guitar was really frustrating because I had always been playing rhythm in all my bands. Not being able to strum really sucks. A friend of mine that i used to jam psych music with called me and said,"I was thinking about you and how you cant strum. Have you ever heard of Chapman Stick? I send you some videos." So now I've signed myself up for a whole new set of frustration via The Stick. ha ha

Hi Rudolf and welcome. As for the strap, while you wait you could use a piece of clothes line slipped under the strings just above the nut. put it around your neck and under your right arm and have someone tie or tape it off. It shouldn't get in your way and most of the time it will have very little tension on it if you hold your Stick fairly upright. What string is missing? you may find a temporary replacement, if it is one of the thinnest strings, at any music store. They are not ideal, but should be long enough to reach the tuning peg. Do you have a stereo chord? Something else you may pick up at the local music store.

By all means get these things asap from Stick Enterprises, but you could be set to go tomorrow with a little creativity.

Mike

Hi Rudy, welcome!
When I sit and play, I usually just put the belt hook on a thin wooden dowel across my legs and gently hold the pickup block between my knees, no strap required.

It sounds like you've had quite the journey to bring you to the instrument, I hope it's able to alleviate some of the frustrations your guitar has provided you. If I may offer a suggestion, try not to come into the Stick thinking of it as a different guitar or bass, it's definitely it's own thing.

Please keep us updated on your progress!
