Post Hello stickists, from the north of England
Hi folks, this seems like a friendly, helpful and well-informed forum so I'm going to take a chance and say hello! I am only a few weeks away from owning my first stick (railboard with RMR tuning) and I'm hoping to draw heavily on your expertise and good advice over the times to come.
I am a mediocre guitar and keyboard player, interested in a huge range of musical genres, but my current focus is what you might call Celtic music and I play guitar in a traditional band, often for dancing, but my stick enthusiasm is something for me personally, not the band scenario. The so-called Celtic music is actually very diverse - Irish, Scottish, Northern English, even specifically Northumbrian (the County in which I live - it has its own instrument, the Northumbrian pipes, heard riffing on Sting's Fields of Gold), and of course into the other Celtic fringes of western europe - Breton, Galician and so on. I'm beginning to bore myself already!

I've listened to as much Stick music as I can - I think I am obsessed! I anticipate a long learning curve. One areas I know I'll need help in is the equipment side, and I'll use the Gear forum to ask my innocent and hyper-basic questions, I love the showcase threads, and I think I will be exploring skype lessons too.

So I've stopped lurking and said hello. Looking forward to a sticky future.
Dave

Welcome. Check out Bob Culbertson s Celtic album it sounds like it would be up your alley. Looking forward to hearing how you do when your stick arrives.

Welcome Dave

I’m usually in Northumberland every summer (I’m staying home this summer with my old dog)

If you’re still playing next year we should get together. What part of the county are you in?

Brett

Thanks Jzzb8ovn. I've found the Bob Culbertson one, and a collection of Leo Gosselin. I'm inspired by both!

That's great Brett. I don't know any stick players hereabouts. It would good to meet up. I hope that by next year I'll be past the totally useless stage. I'm based a few miles south of Alnwick. Dave

I am glad to meet you, and I will be even happier to answer your gear questions (as Gene can attest).
