Re: Newbie (for now) - just received my Railboard today
congrats! I'm pretty much a newbie too at 50. Said what the hey! Just have fun with it and play around with stuff. I totally play by ear so sheet music would do nothing for me.
You really can get as creative as you want with it. It is simply amazing. I started out with a few easy songs and just trying to get my fingers used to a new fretboard. My right hand really needed to get used to play lead and not strumming coming from guitar myself. Unlike guitar, I find it best to just quit for a bit and clear the mind when things are not working as planned. You really do need to have a clear head and not think too much. When I start thinking too much one of my hands decides it wants to be a solo artist... and not a member of the band! LMAO
Enjoy!

Railboards are so awesome. Totally futuristic, they sound great, nigh indestructible...

Congratulations on your new journey, you are guaranteed some good conversation in these parts with your new instruments. You will have to learn how to post images, or it simply did not happen. If the Stick were a meal, I think it would be a buffet. There would be many all kinds of soup, salad, entrees and delicious desserts - whatever you desire. The question is not HOW do you play this thing, but what are you hungry for? Have fun! Those first few days are magical. Please keep posting your questions and discoveries along the way - we are all digging it. Cheers.

Re: Newbie (for now) - just received my Railboard today
Magical indeed! I held off playing because the book I received was in Classical tuning and mine is in MR. Greg informed me that I simply needed to shift the melody side up two frets! Sweet! So I started playing last night. The first 10 minutes or so I wondered if I would ever be able to get a sound from it. By the end of my 2 hour session, I was playing some simple chord progressions using both hands. I went to bed and could hardly sleep from my excitement! As for posting pics, I already posted them above - it really happened I swear!
