Hey guys!
Does anybody have a good list of tunes suitable for beginner stickists? Something not too hard melody wise with a good groove?

Hi Steve,

Not sur how "cool" it is...but one of the simplest I can offer is "Sunday" from Stick Figures, as written in the Stick Book. The rubato intro is not included, just the tune, which has a very simple bass groove.

"All Blues" is also pretty easy if you have a Real Book

Still working on my Song Book...which has easy and not so easy and everything in between.

I thought "Sunny" is a cool song to groove on, so I Googled for the chords and, lo and behold! Another tune ot add to the list!

Here is a link to the chords (and words) that I am using:
http://www.azchords.com/h/hebbbobby-tab ... 07368.html

The chart calls for a dom 9th chord... I just use a dom 7th and it works out just fine.

>>I thought "Sunny" is a cool <<

Actually on an album that was very influential to my playing, "Pat Martino Live @ Folk City" (mid-70's). His version of Sunny is a killer guitar presentation.

Hmmm... I'll definitely have to look up Pat Martino's version. Could that have been Anne R. Bohr (no relation to Nils Bohr)?

Wow, good tunes to groove to.. in the jazz realm, Memphis Underground (Herbie Mann) - 1 chord and a great goove line,, Cousin Mary (Coltrane), Song for My Father,Summertime,
Blue Bossa, and Angel Eyes. on the rock side of the house- Sunshine of Your Love (Cream), Walk on the Wild Side (Lou Reed- ps see my YouTube version) , Whiter Shade of Pale ( Emmett's arrangement in Free Hands is superb!) ( Procol Harem), Mellow Yellow & Sunshine Superman (Donovan) and Come Together (Beatles).

well hope this gets you started- if you can't play all the "bass" chords, just play the bass note and the melody as in Whiter Shade of Pale. These songs are so well written that just a singular bass note, along with the melody will carry the song, and make it recognizable by the audience. Always nice when the song you THOUGHT you played, was the song the audience THOUGHT THEY HEARD! :)
take care, and just stay with it!

I've been working on some U2 songs - Pride, One, Angel of Harlem and Police songs - Walking On The Moon and Message in a Bottle. Those are quite fun and not real difficult.

Also - started on Cause We've Ended As Lovers (Jeff Beck version) and Europa - VERY fun to play and not difficult at all.

Oh - and Wild Horse by the Rolling Stones is pretty cool too!

Dave
