Post Aluminum 10 String Concept
I am working on a headless 10 string concept as a personal side project. It has an aluminum fretboard, veneer inlays, modified Lace pickups, and integrated linear tuning machines. Any thoughts or input would be greatly appreciated.

(NOTE: This is for a personal exploration and not a production concept.)

Post Re: Aluminum 10 String Concept
this is a very insteresting project ;-)

A couple of thoughts came into my mind, when I first saw it:
- would be cool to have a sort of a "cover" at the end of the headless tuners; if you look at headless instruments (also NS/Stick) the board continues until the end of the knobs, so that you can situate your instrument in vertical position against a wall and also save your tuners
- you could play a little bit with length and form of the top; to me it looks too static; what about a round top?
- one side of the pickups is longer than the instrument itself; can they be as long as the instrument? it would fit better and you can not break them by mistake (same for tuners)

Interresting! Is it a 34" scale? I think 30" would be great.

Really close to the Kelstone configuration. I hope it's lighter because the Kelstone was heavy in weight. How do you tune it? Like an Harpejji? If it is the way...hum...it needs to be with a high precision or it becomes complicated.

I would put some kind of bumper to protest the bottom where the tuners are. The Stick and NS Stick has some wood that protrudes behind the bridge end to give some protection. The old Steinberger basses and guitars have the body stick out on both sides of the tuners.

Is this going to have divided (stereo) pick ups? Where would the controls go?
I personally don't use my controls... just flat EQ and volume turned up but the NS is active.
No controls reminds me of the Anthony Jackson Fodera bass.

I am enjoying the way it looks...

Post Re: Aluminum 10 String Concept
so how do you adjust the action?
I guess it would need a truss, and then you are essentially talking about a Railboard, but with a headless stock (which is cool BTW)
Anyway - what are your thoughts?

I also agree about a bumper (retractable/foldable??) to protect the tuning pegs...or unless of course the tuning pegs could be lockable??

So the truss question raises another thought that I had...has there ever been any alternative to a truss rod? I mean it's probably the simplest (and therefore likely the best) way to tension a neck...but is that it? Surely someone must have come up with alternative mechanisms....??

it's like an NS/Railboard......
I agree about the bumper, and you might want to look at designing a "pod" on the side where the pickups protrude to house your electronics (vol, tone, jack)
also just thinking,,,, a threaded area on the pod ir back of main beam so you could also mount this on a cymbal stand, a guitar scrap button, or even attach a belt clip.
