Because those sticks on stick.com are very, very bright, and it looks like a factor of the contrast of the image. perhaps I should go wenge....

My Paduak is darker than the images on S.E. So it may be just the result of studio lights that highlights the red colour. I had a Bubinga some years ago and its (similar) redness darkened over the years. This Darkening seems to be pretty standard with red tinged woods. Yes, I too considered a Wenge model, but I'm very happy with the rich red of the Paduak.... and it certainly won't be getting any brighter!! In general I think Sticks look better in darker hues. The lightest I would have (and did have some years ago) is Tarara (Canary wood), its really beautiful. Whatever wood you choose...its still a Stick!!...so happiness guaranteed!!

ProfQ,
Here are two photos of my padauk manufactured pre 2010. I believe the red color loses intensity and darkens with age.
Cheers,
Simon

I've been said that the color could loose its brightness, but I'm not sure at all, mine seems as bright and red as the first day. Color is really shining when put under the light, the wood texture is simply gorgeous.

Cheers,
Simon For a reason I can't explain, I prefer dark wood color. Your stick is so beautiful...even the stick holder...You gave me an idea for mine. I was looking at the SE page for woods and I like a lot these ones...rosewood (like mine), paduak and wenge...like I said...dark woods. I've never seen a maple one...and there is no pic.

Many woods naturally change color over time. My Paduak is much darker now than when I got it. On the other hand it is always out on a stand so it is exposed to more air and indirect sunlight than if it would live in a case. Even if it lived in a case, that would only delay the process a bit. This page talks about wood color changes and about half way down describes the different changes some woods go through. http://www.wood-database.com/wood-artic ... tic-woods/

Here is a pic from last night's gig at Lorimar. Still a red-brown as opposed to a brown red. It received a Danish Oil treatment about 6 weeks ago when I changed strings. Other than my first Ironwood, I've always had at least one Paduak Stick. I've always wanted a bamboo Stick, someday... +1 to Russell's link, man that should be it's own topic in this forum. This is a fascinating read - I love the bit about keeping the delusion going a little longer...
