Post Stickamp : Acoustic Image Coda R
Hello

I know this topic had been discussed before the crash. But I can't remember all that had been said about it.
I'm thinking of changing my amp rig. Until now, I use a keyboard amp from Roland. But it lacks a bit of power and bass end. So, I'm considering to buy an Acoustic Image Coda. My problem is that I can't find a dealer near my home, so it's impossible for me to try it quietly.
I tried some amps recently, The JAM 400 from SR Technology. It's a good amp for the price, but a bit heavy and the panel seems a bit "cheap". I tried then the Bose system which is incredible (it delivers the purest acoustic sound from my Stick), but it's a bit expensive and not so easy to carry on.
So, the idea is now to try and perhaps purchase a Coda R. So, what buyers have to say about this amp? Does it worth the trip with the Stick (and the StepABout)? Is this amp loud enough to play in some venues like tiny bars or restaurants? How is the definition of the high and bass ends? And... how about the mediums? ;)
Well, share your impressions about it, please!

I love it. Not only is it powerful and extremely light (20 lbs), it's totally changed my perspective on my sound too... I find myself using effects less and less because the natural tone of the amp is so good.

It's a full range combo, but I wouldn't say "flat" sound. In other words if you run the amp line output to a mixer and listen though monitors or headphones, the tone isn't quite the same as it is through the 3 way speaker (it was more similar when I was using a Barbetta keyboard amp). The speaker system adds some depth and warmth to the sound, perhaps more midrange and a bit of high end roll-off... but you still get a full frequency range.

I agree, it's a great little combo for Stick or bass, quite loud and very versatile. I've only used it for two live Stick gigs so far, but the sound quality far exceeded my skill level on the instrument. :p It's well constructed, solid without being heavy and has excellent controls and effects options. A great investment if you can afford it.

Cheers,

EG

It's really expensive here in Europe. How much is the street price in the USA?

Bruno, contact me offlist. I've tested the Acoustic Image Coda in Switzerland.

I've really enjoyed my Coda. I'm thinking of picking up an extension for times when I play a noisy room or with other amplified instruments. It has a wonderful tone that can be manipulated to get a superlative tone regardless of the acoustic environment.

AND IT IS LIGHT!!!

I loved the Stick Amp when I tried a prototype last May, but...I found an amp I kinda like better..

This 400watt Mark bass amp frequency responses is awesome. I like it so much I've used it for Chapman, Piano and Voice all simultaneously, sounding clear, punchy as hell.

With 400 watts I can blow the guitar player off the stage in most of the clubs I play.

Lately I'm using a RANE SP1, which I run with MONO out, but I run the "A" channel through a guitar pedalboard, and leave the bass side clean. The sound I'm getting (finally!!) is superb.

Took me a year and a half to get a really good sound, and I've got it.

If you haven't tried the Mark Bass series, take your stick somewhere where it exists and give it a shot, you will not regret it.

Hi

I tried a Markbass last year. It's a cool amp for bass guitar, the weight is light, and they're built very well, but the main issues to me are : 1 input only, and the overall tone (a lot of bass and high, but a lack of medium).

Hi Bruno,

A Phil Jones Suitcase may be worth a long drive if you can locate one over there. It's 2CH and supposedly astonishing.

With the AI amps in Australia it's cheaper to order one from the US (I got several quotes a while back). The same might apply in Europe. Bob Gollihur sells and ships them, among others.

Cheers,
Andy
