Hey Kevin,
This is ironic seeing as when I started this thread, you were one of the influences for it. Your CD, because it was in the style I am interested in, was one of the first I bought before I was convinced to buy my NS/Stick. Artists such as yourself, Don S, Greg H, Tom G, Steve A, and Glenn P to name a few, take solo playing to level I myself, hadn’t seen before
. I and my wife were at Stick Night 2004 to hear all of the above listed artists (plus others), play when Tom G. said, ”I like to make my Stick sound like something other than a stick”, and proceeded to blow my mind with a synthesized sound that I had never expected from the Stick. That whole night was great with the only disappointment being that we weren’t able to here you (Kevin) play
. When you got there, you had just come back from playing another gig and everyone had proceeded to break down the set. Up until that time though, I was under the impression that all of you were playing with a band of some kind and using the Stick as an enhancement instrument. After that night, I was convinced that the depth of solo play could be just as, if not more, exciting and deep as playing with a band. I just didn’t know if I could do it. (NOTE): Thinking you can and knowing you can are 2 different things……….(if you let it be)
. Hence, the apprehension when asked that question by Emmett. Anyway, this has been an amazing thread and I hope to spark some more thoughts in the near future. Thanks all.
