Post tuning choice for my new 10 string
I recently placed an order for a new 10 string grand and i've been worrying about the loss of the high B string on the bass side. i use that hi string quite allot on the 12 string grand for chords. that coupled with the fact that I rarely play the low C string has me wondering whether anyone has considered dropping the low string on the 10 string and keep the high B. any thoughts from other 10 string players. do you miss that high B?

Hi pdox,

Bob uses that bass tuning on his AcouStick prototype. GDAEB

No, you can do this very easily on your own. There would just be a few changes at the bridge and nut to make (and maybe adjustment of individual pickup height, too)

Setting the intonation for this kind of change is very easy, because all you're doing is shifting things over one string position. Generally speaking, thicker wound strings will ride higher in the bridge and nut screws, which means the screw needs to be lower. Thinner plain strings should be slightly lower than thicker ones, and wound strings with thin cores need to have higher screws than would strings without thinner bridge windings.

I'm happy to help you with that via the forum if needed.

You should have Emmet set up your new instrument with the new tuning. If you want to change all you will need is a lower bass strings, but I'd recommend getting it from SE, not from a local shop, as Emmett's low bass strings are very particularly made by the string manufacturers. Off-the-shelf low bass strings usually sound pretty thuddy for tapping.
