What instrument did you come to the stick from
As the question says, Just wondering what you were all playing pre-stick. I always had a feeling that it was mostly Bass players who took up the stick, having seen them 'high profile' with the likes of Tony Levin and John Myung, but I suspect that maybe that isn't the case.

Just for the record, I put multi as I played electric, acoustic and bass guitars and keyboards before getting a stick.

I picked bass, although I came from playing bass, guitar, and banjo. Bass has always been my primary instrument though.

Guitar; classical and rock. I did play two-handed in the '80s after seeing Stanley Jordan. I later found out about Emmett and the Stick. So the tapstyle guitar did prepare me a bit for the Stick, albeit in the right hand only. - Matt

Multi for me.
Formally, my primary instrument was the saxophone which I studied all through K-12 and also majored in during college. Played piano from as young as I can remember but never really did any formal study until college. Took up guitar and bass at age eighteen (I'm 45 now) so I could play in punk bands. Also dabbled in flute, clarinet, violin and drums. Took up the Stick at age 36.
Instruments I would still like to develop some skill on before I die?
Theremin and Cello.

Multi for me too; How about Kalimba, Sitar and Shakuhachi I tried the Saxophone but it never worked for me. The most serious instrument before the Stick was Guitar and I still play a lot. An interesting question that goes along with this thread is; has playing the Stick improved the playing of other instruments? This has been surprisingly true for guitar and also is making the possibility of playing the Piano more interesting as well. And I play keyboards a lot but actually sitting down and working out solo pieces on Piano the same way that "we" do on Stick seems more straightforward because of something that has happened to my brain from playing Stick for seven years. Bass for me. Playing Stick allowed me to continue to use the training and knowledge I knew from Bass but use it to make music from the ground up, not just a bass part. Now I can make music by myself or with other musicians, but its now just music, I love it!

Re: What instrument did you come to the stick from
Other than just kicking a few others around for a bit this is my first instrument.
Although I have spent some time on a few miscellaneous instruments I can play the Stick better than any others and am very much a beginner on the Stick still (one year into it). So, I think the Stick should qualify as my first instrument.
