I've got an original 10-string stick (just getting about learning to play), serial # 341 and I'm trying to fill in a bit of it's history. Mainly trying to figure out if it's ironwood or rosewood (or ironwood with rosewood neck) as I've seen references to all three, It's a dark wood, not light like the maple & bamboo models I've seen.

I've tried to look up Stick production history at the various sites but what I've seen is pretty vague.

To be truly sure though, you should have to contact SE: they keep records for all their instruments.

With a serial number that low, I'm betting on ironwood. I still have my first Stick; ironwood #745. Many of the early instruments were constructed of this wood, with the occaisional oddballs like macassar ebony or zebrawood.

I can't give an exact weight, but if it's really heavy it's ironwood.
