Joy Stick
If it may motivate anyone here, after 26 years of playing The Stick, I get more and more inspired everytime I pick up my ax. The creative possibilities, the interaction with other players, the sound, the whole process is positively addicting. I look forward to more musical journeys in the coming months. (special gig in July with Oz Noy, which will kick my ass)

Re: Joy Stick
I totally agree, Steve.
25 years for me, and the instruments never fail to surprise and inspire me.
I've got all four of my instruments in different tunings now, and each inspires new ideas when I pick it up. I try to leave at least one instrument plugged in and ready to go all the time.
And it's great to see how this motivation and inspiration keeps you going, coming up with new things.

You Guys inspire me to keep wrestling with it.I know I'll get it soon. But I feel pretty good for only having 5 months of experience. Thanks Steve and Greg. Mike L.

Re: Joy Stick
allright I'm in the ring with a chair on this one too! 21 years ( hey, I heard that heckler in the cheap seat say "doesn't sound like it"!- get him outta here as Ben Grimm the Thing would say, it's clobberin time!) The Stick (tm) always inspires, calms and teaches. I hosted my open stage last night and played Nirvana's "All Apologies" to a thunderous applause. then one of my usual suspects, not Keyser Soze, asked me to join in on Chris Issaks' "Vicious Game", three chords no problemo, and all these two handed bass lines starting flowing. many times I'll pick it up and new techniques or voicings just occur all by themselves. I love the Stick, this forum and all the players here with all their own individual unique voices. Whole Lotta Love ( brrrrrr) whole lotta love ( brrrrrr) whole lotta love! Dave Brosky

Does that go anything like his 'Wicked Game' tune? Is that the ballad with a falsetto leap on the lead vox melody and twang bar stratocaster half note glissando? If so, lovely music!

Oz Noy should be a killer gig. But you have a secret weapon - the half fretless Stick. That thing is the best sounding fretless bass I've heard.

Re: Joy Stick
David & Per, Yes!, good catch- amazing it sounds just like "Wicked Game". flip side? remember those. I shouldn't type these until I've had my third cup of coffee, or my Mudcup right Greg? nice song, very haunting and effective. thanks, Dave Brosky

You betcha'. The half-fretless is sounding even better as I get a feel for it. I'll need every musical tool I can muster to keep up with Oz. I'm addicted to his compositions and playing which is absolutely incredible.
I'm really pleased with my sound right now. For those who care: Half Fretless bamboo Grand Stick Melody side through a Roland VG 99 processor split into 2 amps-Roland JC 120 and Fishman "solo" column Bass side with a touch of verb into a Hartke HyDrive 15C The accumulative sound is just overwhelmingly Full. I'm having a blast SA
