Post Re: Guilty pleasures
My truly guilty pleasure is my lack of respect for some of the "great" rock bands in history; The Doors, Led Zep, Cream, Black Sabbath...there will be no blues-based cock rock on my desert island. And yes, I DO feel guilty admitting to this, but I would take Yanni along before Clapton any day!

I'll just go and hide in my bedroom now.

Yanni over Clapton? Well, I know I'd take Enya to my desert island over King Crimson :o Now it's my turn to hide

I love the guilt at publicly expressing disdain for the heros of most people on the list... :-)
I understand though, I just hate to think of people equating Crimson with Thrak, Zep with I can't quit you babe and The Stones with Statisfaction...
I feel they had so much more than what becomes generally known or related to them...

Well I have to admit that on a desert island I would prefer Enya rather than Robert Fripp, but my reasons are a little bit more prosaic :D :D or should I take Beyonce?

Cheers, Daniel.

Or The Beatles with "She loves you"?

Seriously, I hear something I like in most music. And there are many amazing musicians I will listen to even if I'm not a big fan of their style. I think it's more about not being able to relate to people's obsession with certain artists.

Cheers,
Andy

There are more, but this is the most glaring I think... Plus the girl is really cute (which has nothing to do with the music of course)! Anyone who knows me would be very surprised, as I'm not prone to liking "happy" music, people who wear their ballcaps sideways (pet peeve on par w/ people who don't use their turn signals! Especially Yankees hats! YARGH!!!), or motor scooters. Can't help this one... Think I'll watch it again.

Yes, I understand. I've been driven away from what would otherwise be a fine band for years just because of people's obsession with them...
Like Maná. :-)

Amen to that. That's why I'm finding this such a difficult question to answer. My tastes pretty much run all over the map and I'm having a hard time coming up with anything that I'm normally loathe to admit to. Although ... my charming spouse had me sit through "Mamma Mia" and I have to admit that I enjoyed it quite a bit.

This is absolutely true. I was perusing another forum one time when somebody said something like "what would we all do if there were no KC" and they almost seemed insulted when I replied "listen to something else." It really is that simple.

But by the same token, I've always felt that it's equally as bad to disregard an artist for the same reason. I've run across folks saying "well ... I use to like them until they got popular" or "I don't like them cuz everyone else does." I'll freely admit to having made similar statements in my youth. But today I find those reasons to be fully retarded.
