Grand Grid
Do you remember the full-Grid model introduced in 1987? I got one of the few that were produced, and it is an interesting instrument: no acoustic sound and equally thin strings, the output of the decaphonic pickup was converted to MIDI by a rebranded IVL Steelrider (originally developed by IVL for steel guitar). I wonder if there would be any interest (or indeed if there are any in existence!) for a full-Grid Grand or Stick with two GK pickups and the conversion handled by Roland GI-20 or Axon pitch-to-MIDI converters... The IVL works well, although there are occasional bum notes, and I'm sure that the conversion available today is much faster and accurate than it was 20 years ago! So, full-Grid anybody?

Re: Grand Grid
Are you saying this is like a Midi dedicated instrument with equally gauged thin strings tuned the same with the pitch being handle through midi conversion?
Interesting.

Re: Grand Grid
Exactly. If one is into computer music and Stick it's pretty cool.

Re: Grand Grid
One of those originals came up on eBay in the UK a couple of years back, and I was really tempted, but it looked darned ugly! I'm pretty sure that it was a weird colour or something.
I don't think that it went for all that much either (relatively speaking). I kind of wish I'd gone for it now out of curiosity.

Re: Grand Grid
I'm afraid so... I have a bad case of Stick-GAS! In my defense I can say that I normally rent out the two 10-strings to people who want to try out a Stick or are waiting for the delievery of their Stick (I'm the SE agent for scandinavian countries). The 12-strings are the ones I use most: graphite and fretless when I play in a band, shedua when I play solo or need a more "acoustic" sound. The Grid I only use in the studio, as I play Stick better than keyboard: it works well for scoring parts and laying down quick ideas.
And, to quote the great Steve Adelson, "you can never have to many Stick!"
