Post SiReN
You may know of this already, but I just discovered this project, SiReN, from Stick player and multi-instrumentalist George Baldwin. He's a fantastic Stick player, a stellar bass player and a great singer. One very talented man.

Check out the Stick playing in 'A Selection Of Movements', the quirky pop sensibility of 'Tragedy On Lonely St' and the solo in 'A Fond Farewell'. I don't think I've heard a right hand that fast, fluid and clean on a Stick player until now.

I am most impressed, Mr. Baldwin.

I remember listening his first tracks a while ago, and it was very nice. Now, progress have been impressive. If he can play his stuff live and sing in the same time, sure we got a noticeable artist!

I thought this guy was really good; the first song was tight and very catchy. Not really my style, but I respect it quite a bit. The solo had some pretty quick and clean right-hand licks, but it wasn't THAT fast. Still cool, though.

I don't know, the run coming out of the solo at about 3:25 was pretty darn fast.

Speed aside, I think that this guy is a talent to watch.

Holy CRAP! In other words, I really like it.

He isn't selling his music directly from his site, but if you send him an email I presume he'll send the pertinent info to make a purchase.

Anxiously awaiting his response...

I agree with you, grozoeil. Based on the music that I've heard on his site, he has the potential to bring awareness of the Stick to a massive audience. I know that he's not just a Stick player, but he is a remarkable talent, especially at his age. I've not seen or heard many musicians in my 38 years that are so incredibly good at so many instruments and blessed with such a good voice.

Aside from the obvious, what impresses me most is his ability to combine elements of prog and pop, making it not only listenable, but catchy as hell!

Some of the pop stylings he uses, on their own, wouldn't normally do anything for me, but put into his musical context, with clever, sometimes complex arrangements and absolutely phenomenal musicianship, it works! The best of both worlds.

Hey everyone, and thanks James!!

It really means alot that you guys have brought my music up on this site and actually like it! The compositions on the SiReN page are just ideas/leftovers/just for fun! There is just so much of it I just put it up there. I have other stuff too if interested:

Too many sodding websites! haha

Whats really great is that everyone who has responded within this post I have heard and aspired to for a long time, just though YouTube and Myspace etc. I just love the community spirit and the incredible talent all of you have, and how fantastic it is that this instruments potential is being so widely explored. I really look up to you all.

I actually have an album but at the moment Im setting up a Paypal system on my site which will help people buy the album instead of having to e-mail me. I am just burning the album onto a blank CD and shipping it at the moment! Nothing fancy (hopefully one day!).

Could someone tell me which is the best way to get my music on iTunes without being ripped off or getting a lousy deal?

By the way MM, I got your app today for the scales, invaluable!

Glad to now be a part of this site with you guys and gals,
George

PS: If there are any other Stick Players in the East Sussex area of the UK then give me a shout!

My pleasure, George.

I think that you have the potential to take over where Mark King left off with Level 42. You are an exceptional musician and a great singer. If you can do it all live, you will be a force to be reckoned with.

We have yet to see a Stick player/lead singer break into the mass market, and we've all been waiting for just that person.

Cheers,
James
