Post Block ACTV-2 on Grand Stick - Low C String Volume Issue
I have a grand stick with an ACTV-2 pickup. All of the strings are fairly well balanced for volume, with the exception of the lowest C bass string. It’s volume is noticeably lower than the low G string next to it.

I tried raising the side of the EMG pickup under the C string. That seemed to help a little, but still not quite there. Any advice for things I could try?

I thought about getting more of the damping tape and stacking another little slice under the G string to lower its volume, but don’t know if it would work or how it might change the sound.

Thanks!
Travis

Is it possible that you might have a faulty string?
Try a different string in that location and see what happens.

Another thing to try, is installing a different gauge string
in the same location, to see if it's an EQ problem?

I know next to nothing about the ACTV-2 specifically, but general food for thought....

Pickups, especially those with strong magnets in them (e.g. neodymium) can actually dampen strings if set too close.

When playing with pickup height, you might also try lowering it just to see what happens.

On my ACTV2 there were 2 small and thin metal shims to slightly reduce the output of strings 7,8 for balance of the sound. These were originally fitted by Emmett. You could email SE to ask about these - and string heights too?

Thanks! Great ideas!

Since my original post, I lowered the height of the C string. This made a noticeable difference. So now, I may try the suggestion to lower the pickup, which I’d previously raised.

Bottom line, I think I’m now in the ballpark.
