Post Medium gauge melody strings on vintage Stick
Hi folks

I play an older Ironwood fixed truss/bridge Stick, and I've always found the tension on the melody strings a little slack for my liking, especially the 4th/B string (Classic tuning). A few questions...

- anyone have experience using medium strings on melody side only? (light gauge on bass side is fine for me). If so, any effect on intonation or tension on the neck?

- If so, what are the gauges for medium strings, Classic tuning, 34" scale?

Thanks all!
Dylan

My Ironwood is #1212 bought around '84? & I always ordered mediums & never had a problem. No I don't know the gauges. Double fixed truss, until I had work done in '07 for frets, pu, and adjustable truss rod installed, along with brass nut and bridge pieces.

... and speaking of the retrofit, how did you like it? How much difference did it make for playability, tone, etc?

It had a warp (side to side), from sitting in a basement for 20yrs, pu was shorted, frets starting to pop out. The adjustable truss rod made it easy to tweak, like my '08. Emmett brought the instrument up to how he thought it should be. It's been fine since.
