Post string noise on my Grand with Block
When I tap any string there is a momentary high frequency clack noise at the beginning of the Attack. Please tell me how to get rid of it.

Thank you.

Can you tell us more about your setup? What amp, what pedals, etc.

Are the strings hitting the top of the pickup housing when first tapped?

I had not thought about the strings hitting the pickup. What would be a good starting point for adjustments to fix this issue?

Just to be sure – this coming through the signal, NOT an acoustic “clack”, right?

All the pickup housings should be height adjustable, which one do you have? I had to adjust the height of the bass side of my Stickup recently, details on how to do that are here:

It is coming through the signal. It is not heard with the amp turned off.

I read Greg's piece on raising and lowering the pickup housing. I noticed that my Block pickup is not square to the instrument and tilts diagonally. I can't remember if I bought it new (set up at SE) or used (set up by the great unknown). I checked my other Stick, also a Grand but with a Stickup, which I bought new from SE. On this one, the Stickup is square to the instrument.

This could be an easy fix and requires no other adjustments. I'm going to try this first. I will report back.

Thank you everyone for your replies. Especially, Rob Martino for the link to Greg Howard's (rip) article on how to set up the Stick.

I moved the pickup housing down so it is now even with the fretboard. That is the same place it is on my spare Stick. That got rid of the offending noises. Lowering the pickup housing gave me the confidence to lower the strings. I have a metal string action ruler that helped me keep track of how close the strings were to the frets. The most I turned the screws was two half turns per screw. Got the ruler on Etsy for about $5.

The Stick sounds so much better without the clang noise. It is also much easier to play with the action lowered.

Again, thank you everybody.
