Great advice David! Yes, I assumed it might take awhile, but not that long! I will definitely check lead times.

It seems quite playable, as is, just not in the “ideal” zone. I tend toward perfectionism, and as some person smarter than me said: “perfection is the enemy of good.”

Cheers,
Travis

Very true! LOL!

PS. In case it's of any interest the straight edge I use is one of these. I got it on recommendation from forum member @KenCardita, who used one as part of a thorough referb he did on a Stick after discovering how long he'd need to wait for an SE refurb!

PPS. Ken & I can often be found at the Bob Culbertson Saturday Zoom meeting. You'd be welcome to drop in if you're available at around 9am Pacific Time on a Saturday? The connection link can be found here.
I may be late or not there at all this week as the US have moved to daylight time, but Europe hasn't yet, which makes it 4pm rather than 5pm here & 4pm isn't as convenient.

DavidWS,

Thanks for the info on the ruler. I do need one of those. And also for the link to the Zoom meeting. I’ll try to be there for that.

My String Action Ruler arrived today.
https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B08PPGLRJY
Business card sized to fit in my wallet.

The 1978 Stick is 1mm at the 12th fret.

The Railboard is 1.5mm at the 12th fret.
It looks like my Railboard needs some adjustment.

Thanks for the additional measurement! I’m finally starting to get a feel for what might be expected.

If you can get the strings within 1mm of the frets, it will play just fine. I've always enjoyed playing the vintage Stick more than the Railboard and now I know why. With the proper tools, I can make an accurate calibration. The string is my straight edge. I can measure the fret clearance to see if the fingerboard is straight or not.
