well this tutorial really made things clearer for me in modes

you need to watch the whole thing since this guy first shows the traditional way of learning modes - and then "his " way

My favorite mode is the Piala

Actually tl modes are quite simple. If you know a Mjor scale, you know the 7 basic modes.
Each one is just a displacement of the root in said Major scale
CMajor= CDEFGABC (C is the root)
D Dorian=DEFGABCD (D is the root)
E Phygian= EFGABCDE (E is the root)
And so on. There is an explanation of these and how they're used in "Stickology...." book theory section.

The whole idea is to know which note has flat for different mode
And this guy explain it very clear.
The whole idea is that c maj is much closer to Cm than it is to Am
Even though C maj and Am have exactly the same notes.

I have seen A LOT of videos regarding modes which explain it like this (Ionian Dorian etc. )
This one gave different modes order which make it a lot clearer.
At least for me.

If you look at the chart I included it is similar without audio. There are number values but also the resulting affect of each mode, like "Spanish sounding" etc. His video is more detailed and offers sound of course and if that helps, great

Hi Boaz, this guy has a very interesting approach when he's talking about the number of flats in the scale is using. I think a bit similar of this approach but instead of considering the number of flats I'm thinking as a relation between the root, for example C and the major scales related to this root. I give you an example...

C as as root but you play a G major scale on top. That gives you this...starting on the C note which is the 4th of the G scale.

C - D - E - F# - G - A - B - C

Or...if you prefer you can call this the lydian mode in C but thinking your scale as a G major.

Another example

C - D - E - F - G - A - Bb - C

Which is a F major scale starting on C. I don't look at the number of flats buy I know there is at least one in the F major scale.

C - Db - Eb - F - G - Ab - Bb - C
This is an Ab major scale starting on C. You can see 4 flats but I don't think that way...I just play the right notes of Ab major scale starting on the C note which is the third of Ab...

Well, that's my way to play modes. Am I wrong? It works perfectly with me though...lol.
