This morning, Stick #2313 arrived in all its Poly-carbonate glory!

I bought it directly from SE 13 months and some change ago. After its refurbishment, it looks brand new and it feels good in the hands.

Of course now comes that terrifying prospect of learning to play it. I keep telling myself, "Think piano, Garry...or guitar...no, that won't work...maybe double bass."

Anyway, the adventure begins!

Garry

You are going to love it! 8-)

What are you using for amplification?
There's tons of options out there.

I started off with a ZOOM H2N this morning, just to get started ( tuning, etc) and I'll probably use that when I'm practicing while hanging out with my wife.

For actual amplification, for right now, I'm using one of the Roland Cube units (30 Watts) for the bass and for the treble, I'm using a Roland Mobile AC unit( 5 Watts)

Ironically, over the years I've picked up a couple of guitar and bass pedals and I'm sure I''l be playing with those at some point.

The Zooms are great for that. Super portable, and just like you suggest, mine (a H4N) allows me to practice in the same room where my wife is reading. :D

PS. Many congratulations on getting your hands on a Stick. :D

So great to hear the journey is on track. Would love to see more pics if you've got them.

wow that sounds like a great instrument you got there, and please don't worry about that terrifying prospect of learning to play it.... I've been dabbling as a non musician with a variety of instruments since the mid/late 1970s, and it's debatable if I ever actually learned any of them, but one thing they do is bring me great joy and inner peace, and in the end - that is what matters most.

May this new instrument which has found it's way into your hand give you great love, light, and laughter for many many years to come.

Polycarbonate! Cool!
Thinking double bass is a good way to approach the left hand 5ths, if you've played db. Check out Greg Howards take on the universal bass approach (sorry I'm sure that's not what he called it)
The Chapman Stick is The Coolest Instrument in the World and Freedom Creation Vehicle. I have to apologise when I bring The Stick into a room of musicians because I don't know WTF I am doing. Seriously. But I muck about as best I can.
I haven't been in that situation in a long time, but I amuse myself at home with beautiful/horrifying creations.
Congratulations on your new instrument and journey!

Exactly. When they write my book, it will surely contain a chapter about the joy I felt when the instrument was in my hand...

When I purchased my H2N ( I believe it was 2009), I don't believe the H4N was in production. If it had been, I'd probably have gotten that instead. That being said, the H2N still performs well and makes an excellent stick headphone amplifier!
