When do you need to change your strings?
Hi everyone,
This subject came up in a lesson and I realized I hadn't posted about it.
The thinnest wound strings will develop divots that you can feel on their undersides, from rubbing on the frets. The frets are much harder than the strings. The unwound strings also develop dents in them, but they are harder to photograph.
This photo shows what it looks like if I rotate string 5 so that the underside is pointing up. The divot is right in the center of the photo at fret 11.
Divots in the strings affect your tone and intonation.

I hope that's helpful.
