Re: Learning note names
As with Rob's my Sg12 is in mirrored 4ths which makes it easier, but I looked at the geometry of 4ths and realized I only need to mark 3 notes: C, D, E.
B is to the inside of E A is to the outside of E G is to the inside of C F is to the outside of C A is to the inside of D G is to the outside of D
So E is pink, C is green, and D is blue.

Re: Learning note names
As long as it's 4ths and 5ths tuned, left to right is always F#BEADGC or Friggin BEADGooC So E is one string to the right of B, G is to the right of D and so on Magically logical tuning when used in conjuction with the dot markers making the task easier than flat out memorization. This works on every part of the Stick, sweet spot or not. Even the 21st fret and beyond And as a bonus, "unison" playing with both hands is easier than piano because of hand placement. Index finger on both hands is closer to the headstock and fingers fall into place

Re: Learning note names
Ummm so what IS the relevance of "Friggin" and the "ooo"? Seriously, what do those mean?

Re: Learning note names
I have a tuner always on. Most times I don’t need to look but sometimes I cheat. Then I remember where the note is.

Exampl: on the appointed melody frets horizontally where it starts with a F#BEADG .the F# is (Friggin)BEADGooC.the (oo) =2-1/2 steps which brings you to C.The GooC=Goosee you know like a Goosee (jumpy)

Re: Learning note names
In person, I use a different first word but I think the mneumonic works well Pronounced Friggin Beadgooc. It's ascending 4ths or descending 5ths (surprised Mel Bay allowed the word friggin' Comes in very handy on standards l Fm7 l Bb7 l EbMaj7 l l AbMaj7 l L Dm7b5 l G7 l Cmi7 l Cmi7 l (CMaj7 l CMaj7 ) Chords letters follow the above mneumonic and is the progression for Santana's Europa. Autumn Leaves, Suicide Is Painless (Mash) and many others use this progression in various keys. So the Stick is well suited for this Steve A
