Well, after a long wait and a hefty tax/duty bill I finally managed to pick it up. Railboard #7076 in raised matched reciprocal. I've got some basic rudiments under my fingers and can accompany myself for some basic songs. Being able to play piano AND guitar and bass definitely helps you hit the ground running. I've been trying to implement my own piano voicings, but actually the most fun has been finding new chord voicings that exploit the stick's innate idiosyncrasies. Loving the inverted fifths tuning. Really quite natural given the note names are the same as straight fourths,, just inverted to regular bass. Hardest part so far on the bass side is finding where the timbre is "just so" for my preferred bass sound. Leaning a bit more on the two lowest strings (D and A) thus far but the third string (E) has enough beef depending on the song. Just a lot of fun, and whilst I do wish I'd had one earlier, I don't think I could've enjoyed it anywhere near as much off the bat without getting my skills together on piano. |
